Theodore Price
Reincarnating Witch Bitch
PERSONALITY
Positive Trait:
Determined - Theodore is very focused on what he wants and what he needs to do to accomplish his goals, whether they're smaller scale ones involving everyday tasks and his artwork or something much greater, in trying to navigate the complicated web that surrounds himself, Everard and Willem. Even with setbacks happening in his most recent lives, and in having his powers suppressed, he isn't about to roll over and give up. He's too determined to give in to Willem's demands, or to play blind any longer to the reality of what he is and what he did to them both. Theodore stays on task, and while he can be a bit ruthless in the act of accomplishing his goals at times, his determination keeps him on track.
Negative Traits
Top Trait: Jealous - There's a certain layer of irony to it, but even when he's at odds with Willem, Theodore still wants to feel that how it feels to be wanted and cherished. He liked some of his first lives, when he was spoiled and lived in luxury. So when he sees Willem interact with other people across various lives, he does have the fault of being jealous from time to time. Even when he wants to claw the man's eyes out, he has this stomach twisting feeling that he resents, of still resenting anyone who Willem might favor. Of wanting to be Willem's one and only, forever and always. He blames the curse for tying them together so intricately, but it may be more simple than that; Theodore is just a jealous person by nature and is only starting to realize it - as positions are shifting and he isn't able to just indulge in being the center of attention at all times.
Selfish - On account of reincarnating so often and being able to remember the overlap of memories, certain things stopped being important to Theodore. He isn't wholly without compassion, but he is very self-oriented. Whether it's rubbed off of Willem or caused by the actions inflicted upon him by his former lover, Theodore's vowed to take care of himself first and foremost and thus has taken on a more selfish attitude. When you keep waking up in a new life, the people around you become background noise and eventually become less and less important - whether that's running away from the various families he's been born into, breaking hearts and screwing with people for sex and personal gain... what's fun is fun, and what isn't is something Theo's started to leave behind. He doesn't always think of others the way he should when making decisions, and recklessly charges forward into self-indulgence.
Vindictive - Theodore used to be a kinder, sweeter soul. But the burden of having memories rush back of lives manipulated (if not ended,) by Willem have brought up a very vindictive streak in him. He feels like he was cheated out of certain things, and made the fool more often than not and is determined to take back control of his life. This makes him a little bit hotheaded when it comes to seeking out revenge, and it can consume him from time to time, making him obsess over the slightest insult or disruption to his plans. This part of him battles his still consuming jealousy and desire to be wanted, making for a truly toxic mix of push and pull when it comes to what he wants and how he wants it. Or whether or not when he's finally able to pull the trigger, if he'll be able to.
HISTORY
It started back when war was much more common, in a world where Kings rose and fell in a tide of blood and vengeance. The Northern-most Kingdom was one previously ruled by a vicious but true Queen (known to some if not most as The She-Wolf for her brutality in war but also her care and compassion for her family and her people. When she died suddenly, the crown fell to her son who was too young to lead. So then it went to her brother, Prince Willem, who stood in as King Regent. Or, in his eyes, just solely King.
Theodore was nothing then, he was no one. He had the title of Lord but in reality he was a wisp of a boy who took the then King's favor. To the eyes of others at first he was just another one of Willem's bed warmers, but Willem didn't tire of him like he did the rest. Much rather, he became more possessive of him. Theodore was in love with him too, so much so he was blind to the reality of Willem's tactics in war, in life and politics, and couldn't see the obsession he had for power in his chest was festering. Perhaps he was just unwilling to see the darker side, wanting to believe the man he loved, who was sweet to him, couldn't possibly be a monster.
That blindness was the reason he followed him some years later when he was looking for a way to hold on to his rule, with his nephew Everard soon to come of age. They started out on a course of sane solutions, of discussions with Lords and Ladies, but it began to veer into something else. Theo closed his eyes and his ears to most of it, telling Willem he'd accompany him anywhere, no matter what. Which was a stupid idea in retrospect because one bitterly cold night he was standing next to the King on a mountain far up North, where an altar was carved into the stone. Willem was determined to complete a 'Ceremony of Trade', sacrificing the lives of a family of three without remorse.
The Bloodwitch they'd brought with them (coerced, really) began the ceremony and explained that the moonlight had to hear their wish now that the blood was spilled. Willem stepped up, and Theodore stayed in his shadow, one step behind. The witch spoke to both of them next at the same time, voice overlapping in their heads, telling them to focus on their wishes. Willem wanted power. Theodore just wanted to be with Willem, forever and always, as they'd planned. 'I don't want us to part'.
The Ceremony of Trade was, however, aptly named. The blood of the innocent family slaughtered began the magic ritual but something else was demanded to finish it: something of equal balance. Willem was told that in order to finalize his wish he had to give up the one thing he loved in the world to prove himself - he had to kill his soulmate. Unbeknownst to him however, the witch spoke to Theodore at the same time and told him in order for his wish to be granted he had to believe Willem would never hurt him despite anything that would soon unfold, and he would never again have to worry about being separated from him.
He believed. And he died for it, then and there, with Willem's hands around his throat. As the life choked out of him he tried to hold on to the thought that Willem would stop, but he didn't. Despite being scratched at and kicked, he didn't relent, and the grey at the corners of Theodore's eyes turned to black. He couldn't breathe, he couldn't breathe, he couldn't - and then suddenly, once again, he sucked in a breath and awoke.
-
Willem's wish was for power and immortality, the latter of which was granted in a unique way: he was reborn in a new life every time he died, traversing new universes each time with a timeline that often was doomed to repeat the first one: full of love, loss and a quest for power before an inevitable decline. And because Theodore had sewed himself to Willem on account of his own wish, he too was reborn in each and every one of those new lives, living across countless decades, being sought and found by Willem in increasingly controlling ways.
However Theodore didn't remember his past lives to start, but even still he felt the connection to Willem when they came close to one another and he always fell for Willem, time and time again. Fell for his sweet advances, his charm and apparent compassion. He believed him when Willem told him they were soulmates, because how else could he explain the gravitation he felt toward him? At least... at first, anyway.
Willem started to get more forceful in later lives, notably when things didn't go his way or he felt challenged. When he didn't want to have to work his way back up the ladder, and just wanted what he wanted. Theodore had another lover? He had to get rid of them somehow. Had to insert himself into Theo's life, to own Theo. The first few times he charmed Theodore away, or forced the other person to have to leave. When that started to become a chore, he killed them. Started killing Theodore too, if he couldn't have his way. What better way to jump start the next life than finishing this one off, no harm, no foul?
Only thanks to being killed, again and again, Theodore's memories started coming back. He started to remember the cruelty of Willem, adjacent to the kindness. And he started to realize that this wasn't love, not the way he'd imagined it before, when he was hopeful and romantic. Life after life, Theodore became more and more aware of his need to break their link - to break their curse - if he ever wanted peace and freedom. If he ever wanted to kill Willem for good.
Theodore comes from one of many lives in a world with a version of NYC; he's the son of a high profile lawyer, and an independent artist making his rounds in the galleries. He's playing a very delicate game of back and forth with Willem who discovered a few lives in their past that Theodore had a penchant for witchcraft as a natural born witch, a trait that'd come to the surface only after he started remembering his past lives. While Willem himself had studied Blood magic (by forcing witches to teach him,) he still had a deep hatred for their kind, and put a containment spell on Theodore to suppress his powers to try and keep him in line. This caused Theodore to flee and avoid him ever since, all while trying to restore his abilities, find Everard and get his own vengeance on Willem for what he's done to him time and time again.

You think that having everything in the palm of your hand would lead to great things; but somehow despite it all - the wealth, the family, the talent and aptitude for success - Teddie feels as if he's squandered a lot of it. He's always chased the desire to be someone, defined by his own merit and not the prestigious family he was born into or whose strings got him into a globally renown private art school. Does it matter if you're the talk of the town because your work is the galleries of your father's friends? Or that you couldn't even fail out of school if you tried, because your "periods of absence" (rehab visits) were accommodated easily and without complaint.
And that's what the majority of this visit is for Teddie - a chance to "be away from the vices" (shockingly ironic,) and to "socialize with others in his social circles" in an attempt to inspire him to do anything but cocaine and whoever walks by him next. Spoiler: It's not going to work.
